Caribbean Media Awards: CTO Honors Excellence

The Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO) celebrated the contributions of media professionals during Caribbean Week in New York (CWNY 2025). The annual Caribbean Media Awards recognized journalists and content creators who showcased the region’s destinations through outstanding storytelling

1. Honoring Excellence at the Caribbean Media Awards


Sponsored by the Bermuda Tourism Authority, the awards celebrated exceptional work from over 100 entries. In particular, these included print, broadcast, and digital content from media professionals across the United States and the Caribbean. Overall, the event highlighted creativity, integrity, and innovation in covering Caribbean destinations.

2. Recognizing Outstanding Work at the Caribbean Media Awards


Furthermore, the awards recognized excellence across multiple categories:

  • Best Feature Article or Story: Brent Pinheiro (CNC3 – Trinidad & Tobago)
  • Best News Reporting: Brian Major (AFAR)
  • Best Video Production: Amoy Harriott & Glenford Campbell (Television Jamaica)
  • Best Photojournalism: The New York Times – T Brand Studio & Burnt House Productions
  • Best Personal Immersive Story: Dionne Baptiste-Clarke (Your Caribbean Guide)
  • Best Podcast/Radio: Nakinskie Robinson (Radio Jamaica)
  • Best Social Media Campaign: Bermuda Tourism Authority

Additionally, Diaspora Journalist of the Year went to Melissa Noel, and Emerging Journalist of the Year was awarded to Romardo Lyons.

3. Promoting Caribbean Stories Globally


CTO Secretary-General Dona Regis-Prosper emphasized that these media professionals shape global perceptions of the Caribbean. Moreover, Minister of Tourism for Bermuda, Owen Darrell, praised the storytellers’ role in promoting the region and sharing Bermudian hospitality with international audiences.

4. Media Marketplace and Networking Opportunities


After the ceremony, attendees participated in the Media Marketplace to network with stakeholders. Additionally, this platform enabled networking between tourism stakeholders and media professionals. Consequently, it fostered collaborative storytelling and encouraged ongoing engagement within the Caribbean tourism industry.

5. CTO’s Commitment to Sustainable Tourism


The CTO, headquartered in Barbados, aims to position the Caribbean as a top year-round destination. Moreover, by supporting media professionals, the organization strengthens sustainable tourism practices and enhances marketing, advocacy, and communications across the region. In addition, Platinum, Gold, Silver, and Bronze sponsors contributed to CWNY 2025, further highlighting the Caribbean’s dedication to tourism excellence.
